The Ministry of the Interior has presented the annual progress of applications for asylum and international protection submitted between January 1 and September 30, 2022, as well as the proposed resolutions approved between those dates by the Interministerial Commission for Asylum and Refuge.
In general terms, in the first 9 months of the year, a total of 86,829 applications were submitted, with Venezuelans being the most numerous with some 34,000, followed by Colombians with more than 25,000, Peruvians, Moroccans and Hondurans. During this period, more than 36,000 applications have been rejected and 10,374 persons have been granted protection. 13,041 applicants have been granted residence on humanitarian grounds. The countries with the highest rate of recognition of international protection are, in this order, Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Sudan and Mali.
